Serving Families Like Yours
Since 1896

Founded in 1896 as Butzin-Falkenstein Furniture & Undertaking, the Watson street business became Butzin-Kussman Furniture & Undertaking in 1901. In 1920, Frederick Carl Butzin bought out his partner and renamed the firm Butzin Furniture & Funerals.

In those days, embalming and funerals most often took place in the family parlor, at the home of the departed. In 1927, Butzin opened a "funeral parlor” — one of Ripon’s first — at 202 Blossom Street, in the building now occupied by "Flowers by David.”

The family parlor, once reserved for funerals and other solemn occasions, became the "living room” — a phrase coined by Ladies’ Home Journal to erase the aura of grief and solemnity associated with the parlor.
Butzin’s sons joined the firm — Karl in 1935; and Frederick Jr. ("Freddie”) in 1947 — along with Lewis ("Butch”) Egbert of Green Lake.

Freddie died in 1966. Jerry Marchant joined the firm in 1967, and it became Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home. In 1970, the firm built a new, modern facility on west Oshkosh Street.

Karl and Henrietta Butzin retired in 1975, selling the business to Jerry and Faye Marchant. Todd Goheen joined Butzin-Marchant in 1992; Todd and his wife Tamera bought the firm in 1995.

Todd and Tamera Goheen retained the historic name of Butzin-Marchant. Todd and Tamera continue the firm’s long tradition of serving each family with personal, hometown care and concern.
