Age 86

James “Jim” George Bednarek, Sr., age 86, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.

Jim was born November 3, 1936 in Montello, WI, the son of Edmund and Rose (Berlowski) Bednarek. Jim received his associate degree in combat engineering and served our country in Germany during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. He married Patricia Monthey on December 29, 1962. Jim worked at the Rippin Good Cookie Factory for 37 years. He loved hunting, fishing, and telling old stories, especially stories about the ponds he made and hunting with his dad. Over the years, Jim remained very active with both the Ripon Lions Club and the American Legion. He participated in making and handing out over 200 Quilts of Valor to local military veterans. Jim was selected to take an Honor Flight for his military service and went on a bus tour of the historic military sites around the country. Jim also loved to watch and cheer for the Green Bay Packers.

Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat Bednarek; children, James (Heather) Bednarek, Jr. of Ripon, Betty Bednarek of Ripon, and Sandra Purath of Montello, WI; grandchildren, Tristan (Kara), Dane, Melissa (Alex) Moen, and Jessica (Spencer) Foth; great-grandchildren, Lance, Sadie and Morgan; sister, Rosanne (Jerry) Yasick; sisters-in-law, Margie Bednarek and Faye Bednarek; in-laws, Robert (Sue) Monthey, Mary (Keith) Cram and Linda (Don) Gloyd; and many nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Foth; his parents, Edmund and Rose Bednarek; sister, Agnus Hartford; brothers, John (Geri) Bednarek, Edmund Bednarek, Jr. and Raymond Bednarek.

A visitation for Jim will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971.

A memorial service for Jim will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, with prayers led by Sister Lois Bush. A Final Salute with Military Funeral Honors will be held at the funeral home following the service. A memorial is being established in his name.
