Alan D. Hargrave passed away at Saint Francis Home in Fond du Lac on October 7, 2006.
He was born to Alexander W. Hargrave and Winifred (Swanson) Hargrave in the Town of Ripon on December 18, 1917. Alan graduated from Ripon High School in 1936. He earned a baccalaureate degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1940. After running a dairy farm in the Ripon area until 1957 he returned to the University of Wisconsin where he obtained a teaching license. He taught at Waushara County Teachers College and Rosendale High School. He earned a Masters degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1962 and accepted a position as guidance councilor at Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac, WI where he taught until his retirement in 1983
Alan was a member of the First Congregational Church, Prairie View Masonic Lodge, Waupun Chapter #44 Order of the Eastern Star, Zor Shriners of Madison, Ripon Rotary, South Woods Park Association, Ripon Historical Society and the Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association. He served on the board of directors of the Cash Crop Coop and the Farm Bureau and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternities.
Alan is survived by two sons; A. Douglas (Sharlene) of Charlottesville VA, and Dr. John Walter (Libby) of Pensacola FL, one daughter; Ann H. (Chuck) Schob of Fond du Lac WI, eight grandchildren; Kristen, Midori and Alexander Hargrave, Dr. Jennifer (Chris) Geric, Michael Perkins, Susan (Steve) Miller, Rebecca and Steven Schob and one great-grandchild; Ella Geric. He is also survived by a sister, Victoria Hargrave, and brother, David (Helen) Hargrave.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy of 58 years, his parents, two brothers, Walter John and Douglas C. Hargrave.
Visitation for Alan D. Hargrave will be held Saturday, October 14, 2006 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 220 Ransom St. Ripon.
Memorial Services for Alan D. Hargrave will be held Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church UCC, Ripon with Reverend Jack Kraaz officiating. Inurnment will be at Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ripon Historical Society, 508 Watson Street, Ripon WI 54971.
