Alexander (Alex) J. Schmitt, age 81, of 604 Hamburg Street, Ripon, passed away early Friday morning, February 10, 2006, at Strawberry Lane Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Wisconsin Rapids.
Alex was born February 26, 1924 in Colby to Edward and Anna (Ewan) Schmitt. He was educated in Colby and Athens schools. He served his country with the U.S. Army stationed in Japan. On November 3, 1956, he married Ardis D. Zimdars in Ripon. He worked in the maintenance department at Speed Queen for 30 years, and also was a part time carpenter. Alex was a member of the V.F.W., Speed Queen Retirees, and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
Alex J. Schmitt is survived by his wife Ardis, of Ripon; one daughter, Patti (Bob) Stanislawski of Stevens Point; 3 granddaughters, Anne Stanislawski of Oshkosh; Carrie Stanislawski of Stevens Point; and Kelly Stanislawski of Oshkosh. He is further survived by two sisters, Marcella (Myles) Kruger of St. Francis, and Winifred (Adam) Kwiecinski of Skokie, Illinois, and two brothers, Clarence (Marge) Schmitt of Grafton; and Floyd (Grace) Schmitt of Ripon. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 5 brothers, Vince, Victor, Bernard, Richard, and Elmo.
A mass of Christian burial for Alexander J. Schmitt will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 13, 2006 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, East Fond du Lac Street, Ripon, with the Reverend Robert A. Fictum officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. Inurnment will be in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Town of Ripon. A memorial has been established.
