Alma K. (Dukes) Stevens, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at the Markesan Resident Home in Markesan, WI.
Alma was born on February 11, 1915, in Carrollton, GA, the daughter of John and Abigail (Williams) Dukes. She graduated from Georgia State University, and later worked as a postal clerk and Post Master in Sagola, MI. On November 5, 1945 she married Clarence Stevens in Atlanta, GA. Alma was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Thomas) Brown of Fairwater; two granddaughters, Tammy (Peter) Degenhardt, and Gail Brown; two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Jennifer; one brother, Denver, and one sister-in-law, Ina Dukes; and dear friend & neighbor, Eugene Cluppert. Alma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, Carl, Burnett, Otto, Glen, and Sterling Dukes; three sisters, Annie Sorrels, Agnes Eanes, and Evelyn Dukes.
Visitation for Alma Stevens will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, from 10-11:00 a.m. at the McKoon Funeral Home, Inc. 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Georgia 30263.
Funeral service for Alma Stevens will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, GA. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, in Newnan, GA. A memorial has been established in her name.
