ANNABELLE (ANNE) GREGORY
Green Lake - Annabelle (Anne) Gregory, 100, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2006, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, William and Barbara Gregory of Green Lake, where she had been living the past three years.
She continued to maintain a residence in Buffalo Grove, IL.
Anne was born May 19, 1906, in Chicago to Patrick J. and Margaret Murphy Carr. She attended St. Columkille Grammar School, St. Patrick High School, and graduated from Tuley High School in 1924. She married Earl E. Gregory in Chicago on January 1, 1930. She was a cost accountant before her marriage and thereafter a full-time homemaker. Anne was an elegant entertainer, avid reader, skillful bridge player, witty conversationalist, gifted writer, graceful ballroom dancer, treasured friend, and inspiration to many. She was very active in her children's P.T.A., headed nearly every guild and committee at St. John's and St. Richard's Episcopal Churches in Chicago, and was a faithful link in the prayer chain at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Deerfield, IL, where she retained her membership. Anne endeared herself to the Green Lake community, joined a bridge group there at age 97, and faithfully attended and supported St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ripon.
In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, who lovingly cared for her, Anne is survived by five grandchildren: Karen (Jeffrey) Warner of Elgin, IL, David (Kathleen) Wenner of Palatine, IL, Amy (Milivoje) Nedic of Harwood Heights, IL, Kristin Tennant (Lowell Eckstein) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Laura Gregory of Austin, TX. Seven great-grandchildren, who will miss their "pen pal's" handwritten letters and crisp five dollar bills every month, also survive: Ryan and Bryce Warner; Lauren, Hank, and Sam Wenner; and Kaeleigh and Kathryn Tennant. She was preceded in death by her four siblings, her husband in 1977, her son-in-law Henry Wenner in 1984, and her beloved daughter Carol Wenner in 2002.
At the request of the deceased, who said she got to enjoy her own "celebration of life" at her 100Th birthday party, her memorial service at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Deerfield, IL, will be private. She will be laid to rest with her husband, next to her daughter and son-in-law, at Acacia Park Cemetery in Chicago. Memorials may be sent to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 217 Houston, Ripon, WI 54971; or St. Agnes Hospice, 114 N. Pearl, Berlin, WI 54923.
Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon, is assisting the family.
