Ardwin Bethke

Ardwin “Arde” W. Bethke, 84, of Ripon, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh.

Arde was born at home on September 28, 1923 in the Town of Mecan, the son of August Herman and Ella (Weber) Bethke. Arde attended Green Lake High School. On June 30, 1945 Arde married Caroline Ann Mahlke in Ripon. He worked with his father on the family farm until he went to work for Green Giant Canning Company. From there he went to work for Zaug’s Vending for over 20 years until his retirement. He was a member of Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon. During his retirement Ardwin was able to do the things he truly loved, fishing, and gardening which included growing his “Famous” 14 foot sunflower. He also loved being a large part of his grandchildren’s lives. He enjoyed tinkering and fixing things around the house.

Survivors include his wife Caroline Bethke of Ripon; his children, Gloria (Alan) Stellmacher of Fond du Lac, Mark (Patricia) Bethke of Ripon, and Jeffrey (Susan) Bethke of Ripon; five grandchildren, Kyle Bethke both of Ripon, Tegan Bethke of Oshkosh, and Trevor Bethke of Waupun;Robert (Amy) Stellmacher of Fond du Lac, Mark Bethke Jr.,two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Jared Stellmacher, two sisters, Erna Dobberke of Ripon, and Elva (Melvin) Schultz of Ripon; three nephews and one niece. Ardwin was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Nicole Bethke; a sister, Mabel Bethke; a brother, Norbert Bethke; and a brother-in-law, Gordon Dobberke.

Visitation for Ardwin W. Bethke will be held from 9:30-11:00 am, Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon.

Funeral service for Ardwin W. Bethke will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Dennis Meier officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of the Cross Cemetery, Ripon. Memorials can be given in Arde’s name, to the National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin, 16655 W. Blue Mound Rd. Suite 240, Brookfield, WI 53005.
