Arlene L. Erdman, age 91, of Markesan (formerly of Fairwater), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Markesan Resident Home.
Arlene was born August 22, 1929 in Green Lake County to Henry and Elsa (Mildebrandt) Loechelt. She moved to Fairwater in 1941 when her father became ill and died. Arlene married Erle T. Erdman on September 4, 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater, and they were blessed with three children. She worked at the Advertisers in Ripon, WI while attending Ripon High School from which she graduated in 1947. She then worked as a legal stenographer. After her children were born she worked part-time selling Avon, American Stores Dairy Company, Zion Lutheran Church as janitor, Village of Fairwater as Clerk and Cemetery Sexton, Laper Bus Service and Twin City Monuments. Arlene was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church of Fairwater, where she formerly taught Sunday School and served as bookkeeper. She also was a member of the Brandon-Fairwater American Legion Auxiliary since 1950, as well as a charter member of Fairwater Historical Society. Arlene enjoyed playing cards and watching UW Madison Sports on TV as well as the Packers and Brewers. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were a very special joy to her. Arlene was a caregiver to her mother-in-law and mother before they passed.
Arlene is survived by her son, Michael (Darlene) Erdman of Allen, TX; and a daughter, Karen (Dennis) of Ripon, WI; daughter-in-law, Beth of Verona, WI; grandchildren, Teresa (Brian) Wiersma, Amy (Billy John) Glover, Erin Witthun, Michael (Lora) Erdman, Brent (Ashley) Erdman, Kathryn (Justin) Sumner, Alyssa, Ben and Jacob Erdman, Daniel (Cristy), Charlie, and Tonya Zanto; great-grandchildren, Austin, Brianna, Ashtyn, Wiersma, Alex (McKenna), Allen and Megan Glover, Emerson (Little One) Witthun, Josslyn, Adalynn, Vivienne Erdman, Jackson and Tyler Erdman, Callie, Evelyn, Leyton Sumner,Ashley, Melanie, Lana, Olivia, and Aubrey Zanto. She is further survived by sister-in-law, Sally Loechelt of Tampa, FL; four nephews; Mary Erdman of Madison, WI; cousins; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elsa Loechelt; her husband, Erle; son, Scott; a great-granddaughter, Lindsay Dallman; brother, Eugene; and sister-in-law, Mildred (Victor) Schmuhl.
Our mom touched many lives with her caring personality. Her Christian faith sustained her and gave her strength throughout her life. We will miss her.
Visitation for Arlene will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, from 10 - 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 Church St., Fairwater, WI 53931.
Memorial Service for Arlene will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater with Pastor Kimberly Stowell officiating. Inurnment will follow at Fairwater Cemetery in the Village of Fairwater.
Her family would like to thank the Markesan Resident Home staff on the North Terrace for all their compassionate care. A memorial is being established in her name.
