Arlin Bloch

Arlin Bloch, age 84, of Green Lake, WI, died on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the Markesan Resident Home in Markesan, where he resided for two years.

Arlin was born June 2, 1927, on the Bloch Family Farm to Reinhold G. and Laura (Kersten) Bloch as the first grandson of a new generation.

Arlin lived his entire life in the Green Lake area. Beginning with elementary school at Peace Lutheran School (Dutch College) followed by graduation from Green Lake High School. Immediately after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. After returning to the states he completed his education at Kenosha Technical College and embarked upon his life long career as a carpenter. Marriage followed in Ripon, WI to Betty Stellmacher on June 14, 1952. Together they raised four children. Arlin was an avid sportsman who loved to fish and hunt and had a vast knowledge of the natural world. He was an active member of the American Legion for many years and a faithful member of Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church where he volunteered for many projects.

Survivors include his wife, Betsy Bloch of 59 years of Green Lake, WI; daughter, Susie (Tom) Riek of Green Lake, WI, with grandsons, Gregg (Jen) Riek of Waukesha, WI and Michael Riek of Green Lake, WI; son, John (Sue Ellen) Bloch of Green Lake, WI, with granddaughter, Kala Bloch and great-grandson, Silas Kok of Orcas Island, WA, granddaughter, Megan (Adam) Sacho and great-grandson, Levi Sacho of Wauconda, IL and grandson, Paul Bloch of Great Falls, MT; son, Peter (Jodi) Bloch and granddaughters, Lily and Izzie Bloch of Madison, WI; brother, Willis “Butch” Bloch of Ripon, WI and sister, Donna Buchholz of Green Lake, WI; aunt, Margie Alf Ripon, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. Great-grandson, Levi Sacho was born the same day Arlin went to heaven. What a blessing! Arlin was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy; his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Bob Loeffler, brother-in-law, Garth Buchholz and sister-in-law, Anna Lou Bloch.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011, at 11 am at Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church, W3278 Cty Rd. K, Markesan, WI 53946. Visitation will precede the service at 10 am. Following, Arlin will receive full military honors on the Green Lake shore. All are welcome to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the church hall. A memorial has been established at Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church, P.O. Box 434 Markesan, WI 53946.
