Arlyle "Mutch" Hartman

Arlyle “Mutch” Hartman, age 90, of Eau Claire, WI, formerly of Ripon, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013, in Eau Claire.

Mutch was born on January 15, 1923, to Leonard and Libbie (Winter) Wegener in the Town of Union, at her grandparent’s home and was baptized by her grandmother when she was three days old. She attended a one-room school in rural Clintonville, WI, for grades 1 – 4. For grades 5 – 8, she attended St. Martin’s Lutheran School in Clintonville and was confirmed in 1935. Mutch graduated from high school in 1939, after which she worked at various jobs in Clintonville. During World War II, Mutch was a government inspector in an ammunition plant in Kingsbury, Indiana, later transferring to be an inspector at the Four Wheel Drive Factory in Clintonville until the end of WWII. She married Floyd V. Hartman on February 20, 1949. They lived in Decatur, Springfield and Mattoon, Illinois. In 1956, they made their home in Ripon, Wisconsin at 914 Newbury St. Floyd was instantly killed in a car accident on October 15, 1957. Mutch remained in Ripon, providing and caring for their two young daughters, Connie and Cindy, working at various places in the Ripon area. In 1979, Mutch attended the Jefferson Parish West Bank Vo-Tech School, in Harvey, Louisiana. On August 29, 1980, she graduated as Class Valedictorian, receiving a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked as a nurse in New Orleans, Louisiana, Naples, Florida and Steubenville, Ohio. In March of 1983, Mutch started working at Juliette Manor Nursing Home in Berlin, Wisconsin and retired from there in 1998. After her retirement, she worked for several years at Miles Kimball in Fond du Lac for seasonal employment. She was an avid fan of the Packers and the Brewers. Mutch loved to play cards with friends, cross-country ski, work crossword puzzles, line dance and travel. She and her two daughters took a trip each summer, sometimes camping in a tent. Mutch had been to all 50 states, the Bahamas, Bermuda, some of the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, France, England, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Canada, Nova Scotia and her most treasured trip to Israel. Formerly, she was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Berlin, Wisconsin and was a member of the choir and Bible class there. Mutch transferred her membership to Messiah Lutheran Church in Ripon in September of 2001, and was a member of the Altar Guild and a faithful member of the Bible class.

She is survived by her two daughters, Connie (Rick) Hagen of Eau Claire, WI and Cindy (Ken) Stocker of Lemont, IL; six grandchildren, Nathan Watkins of Fridley, MN, Ben (Lacee) Watkins of Buffalo, MN, Libbie (Edwin) Nyarangi of LaCrosse, WI, Katie (Rodney) Mulera of LaCrosse, WI, Michael Stocker, U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Polk, Louisiana and Rachel Stocker of Lemont, IL and three great-grandchildren, Louis Isisi Mybaya, Vella Rae Watkins and Sundae Lou Watkins. Mutch is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and their families and the remaining Hartman families in Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, grandparents and all of her aunts and uncles.

Visitation for Mutch will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 9 – 11:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church, 500 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971.

Funeral service for Mutch will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 11:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church in Ripon. Reverend Bryan Fritsch will officiate. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville, WI. Memorials may be given to Messiah Lutheran Church.

The family wishes to thank the staff for their loving care and concern for Mutch while she was at Maplecrest in Ripon, Oak Gardens in Altoona and Our House Memory Care in Eau Claire and a special thank you to the Mayo Clinic Hospice Care Team in Eau Claire. They also want to thank the congregation and staff of Messiah Lutheran Church in Ripon and Peace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire for all of their visits, cards and prayers.
