Arthur Haseltine Carter, 86, of Green Lake, WI, died August 27, 2000. He was born August 24, 1914, to Arthur Byron and Adelaide Haseltine Carter of Ripon. Upon the death of his mother soon after his birth, he was raised in Ripon by his aunt and uncle, Anne Haseltine and John Wells Wright. He was educated in the Ripon Public Schools and graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy (Exeter, NH). He received a bachelors degree from Dartmouth College and a masters from Dartmouths Amos Tuck School of Business. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
On July 16, 1938, he married Mary-Jessie Nash in Ripon. Throughout his career he was employed by the US Steel Corp. in Waukegan, IL, Cleveland, OH, and Pittsburgh, PA. He retired to Green Lake in 1970.
For many years he served as treasurer for both the Dartford Historical Society and St. Peters Episcopal Church and had served on the Ripon College Board of Trustees for 23 years. He had been an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing bridge and watching the Packers.
Mr. Carter is survived by his six children, Sarah Sally (Andy) Fleming of Shepherdstown, WV, Nancy (the late Edwin) Carter Kuhn of Ripon, Anne (special friend Mary Frazier) Haseltine Carter of Faribault, MN, Mary Nash Carter of Chelmsford, MA (formerly of Green Lake), Jane Stuart Carter of Green Lake and David (Nancy) Nash Carter of Pleasant Prairie, WI; nine grandchildren, Sarah Fleming Shveda, Nancy Fleming Gouggon, William Carter Fleming, Peter Carter Kuhn, Robert Jacob Kuhn, Abigail Jeanette Carter, Lydia Marie Carter, Daniel Arthur Carter, and Hannah Elizabeth Carter; seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Ann Winnie Wright Parks, North Hollywood, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, aunt and uncle and half sister, Maurine Carter Hamilton.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 pm Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ripon. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 6:00 pm.
Memorials have been established for the Dartford Historical Society and Caestecker Public Library.
