Arthur Ellis

December 20, 1927 — September 22, 2003

Arthur W. Ellis, a survivor of over 12 years dealing with cancer, passed away Monday, September 22, 2003, at his home at W968 Woodland Circle, Green Lake. Survivors include his wife, Lois; and 4 married daughters, Barbara Ellis (James Herbert) of Honolulu, Diane Ellis (Fred Whitrock) of Baton, Rouge, LA, Nancy Barr & husband Michael of Bexley, OH and Julie Rezin & husband, Bruce of Stevens Point. There are 5 grandchildren, Allison & Ethan Barr, Julia & Robby Whitrock, and Jon Herbert. He is also survived by a brother, Eldon of Brooklyn, WI and cousins. . Art was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Maude Ellis, and a brother, Kenneth, all of Evansville.

He was born December 20, 1927, in Rock County, WI, the son of Arthur and Maude Ellis, Sr., and was proudly raised on a farm. Following graduation at Brooklyn High School, in 1945 he joined the Maritime Service and later attended Whitewater State Teacher’s College. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Art married Lois Giles at Evansville, WI, August 4, 1951.

Art had a career in writing and advertising. He founded “The Leader” shopping guide in Evansville and the “Oconomowoc Shopper” at Oconomowoc, and was advertising manager for the “Oconomowoc Enterprise”. Published the “LaPorte City Review”, LaPorte City, IA in the early sixties. Returned to Wisconsin in 1965, and was advertising manager for the “Ripon Commonwealth-Press.” In 1968, joined Speed Queen Co., Ripon, as publication editor and went on to a variety of positions in advertising and publicity. He retired from Speed Queen in 1990.

Art spent most of his life associated with service organizations. Served as president of the Oconomowoc Jaycees and Ripon Noon Kiwanis. After retirement he became a docent for the Experimental Aircraft Association. Traveling was one of his favorite hobbies, as well as boating, reading and golf. He annually participated as one of the top fund raisers for the Relay for Life in Ripon.

A memorial service – a celebration of his life, will be held at the First Congregational Church in Ripon on Monday, September 29, 2003 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jack W. Kraaz officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 2-3 p.m. with services following. Art would like contributions to be made to the UW-Comprehensive Cancer Clinic, First Congregational Church or St Agnes Hospice Hope.

The adventure is over, and the light has gone out, but his loving spirit will remain with us forever!
