Arthur (Art) Ogren, 75, of Green Lake, Wisconsin, died unexpectedly at home of a heart attack on September 16, 2024. Art was born in Rockford, Illinois, on November 16, 1948, to Arnold and Mary Ogren.
Art graduated from East High School in Rockford, where he was an ROTC Cadet. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois (U of I) in 1970. Following college, Art served in the U.S. Navy. He built a career selling insurance and mutual funds.
While at U of I, Art met Carol Holmstrom. The two were married on April 28, 1972. Art and Carol were married for 52 years. Together, they raised two daughters in Warrenville, Illinois. Art was a true partner to Carol and a devoted and loving dad to Molly and Shannon. He was a proud supporter of Carol’s career and an active dad who made it to all the games, volunteered at school, always provided quiet praise, and listened to and loved his family intently.
Art and Carol were surrounded by a strong community in Warrenville, where he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and served as President of Life Underwriters. Whether giving underdogs to neighborhood kids or creating mischievous hijinks as dinner club Santa, Art loved to have fun and was a friend to many.
Art and Carol enjoyed traveling together and spending time with family. Art marveled at the beauty of God’s creation in the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. And he thanked God for family togetherness at Cathedral of the Pines Camp, on the shores of Caribou Lake, in Lutsen, Minnesota.
Green Lake was Art’s special place. He grew up spending summers with his parents and four siblings at the lake. He continued that tradition, bringing his own family to Green Lake most summer weekends. Art retired to Green Lake, with Carol, in 2005.
Art was “sheriff” of Blackbird Point, and captain of all boat cruises, pulling generations of skiers, tubers, and wake boarders around Green Lake. He hosted many a fishing trip, and sometimes even caught the big one! And he always did the filleting. He loved to welcome quiet evening sunsets with a glass of wine and conversation. A good laugh would bring a warm smile to his face and tears to the corners of his joyfully-crinkled eyes.
Art was a lover of life and will be missed times infinity. Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Brother-in-Law, Friend, Uncle, or “Uncle Glogg,” Art was loved by his wife, Carol Ogren; children, Molly Ogren and Shannon Cox (Kevin); grandchildren (Brody and Nathan); bonus family (CaylieJo Pereau and DeAnna Mullins); siblings, Maureen Stauber (Joe), Dave Ogren, Carl Ogren (Nona), and Roger Ogren; and sisters-in-law, Nancy Youngdahl and June Kroog (Dave).
A celebration of Art’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Christ Lutheran Church, 220 South Main Street, DeForest, Wisconsin 53532. A reception will follow at the church.
