Barbara "Bobbie" Jean Cartier, age 92, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday evening, December 7, 2024, at Prairie Place Assisted Living in Ripon, Wisconsin. She was born on January 22, 1932, in Arnott Wisconsin, daughter of the late Robert H. & Ruby G. Anunson. Bobbie's father was employed by the Green Bay Western Railroad Co. as a Train Master, and in that capacity the family was required to move several times throughout her youth. Eventually she along with her mother and three sisters, Jane, Bette, and Janice, finally settled down for good in Green Bay Wisconsin.
It was here that she met the love of her life Ken Cartier, and they married on February 16th, 1952. Bobbie and Ken moved to Ripon in 1958 after he accepted a position at Ripon College. They were married for over 60 years until Ken’s death in 2012.
Bobbie truly believed in community volunteer work, and spent many enjoyable years volunteering at the Ripon Red Cross Blood Drive, City of Ripon Voting Polls, Ripon Public Library, Ripon Memorial Hospital, and Immanuel United Methodist Church. Throughout her lifetime of volunteer work she developed several lifelong friendships which she frequently reflected upon and shared with family. Bobbie treasured her good friends. She was always thankful for a hot cup of coffee while chatting with a close friend. It was also working within that sense of community that she would often ask both her children & grandchildren "what's going to be your contribution to society?". Although it did indeed seem that particular saying was more often used when the kids were in trouble!!
Both Bobbie and Ken were accomplished card players and extremely active in the Ripon area Bridge circles. Both of them patiently taught all of their children and grandchildren the games of Gin, Hearts, and Rummy. Bobbie enjoyed spending special time with her family, extended family, and close friends at the Cartier summer cottage on Little St. Germaine Lake in northern Wisconsin. A lifetime of unforgettable memories and family fun were created and experienced there over several generations.
The winter months saw Bobbie and Ken spending time in Florida with their special "Florida Gang" where Sheepshead, Bridge, and sun and fun were the activities of the day. Bobbie was also active in the Ripon Women's Study Club along with her daughter Jill, where they enjoyed considerable fellowship with many wonderful fun-loving Ripon area women.
Survivors include her children, Kerry (Jennifer) Cartier, and Joel (Coleen) Cartier; her grandchildren, Chad (Chelsea), Amy (Zac), Katrina (Tyler), Patrick, Jacquelin (Jacob), Amii (Andy), and numerous great grandchildren; her loving sisters, Bette (Emmett) Anderson, and Janice (Al) Noel. Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband Ken Cartier; beloved daughter, Jill Chatterson; and her oldest sister, Jane Brehm. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to both Prairie Place Assisted Living & their kind staff, and additionally the Generations Hospice group. Donations to the Ripon Public Library, 120 Jefferson St., Ripon, WI 54971 in honor of Bobbie Cartier in leu of any flower considerations are suggested. A visitation for Bobbie will be held from 4:00pm - 6:00pm at Butzin Marchant Funeral Home Thursday December 19th, 2024. A private family Celebration Of Life is planned for a later date.
