Barbara Scott, age 90, Ripon, WI, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Autumn Bay in Ripon.
Her life was her family, music, and books. Recipient of the Friends of Education Award from the Ripon Teachers Association in 1983 and the 1984 Education Award from the Northeastern Wisconsin Education Association, she volunteered in the first grade at Roosevelt School and then Barlow Park School for 30 years. She was also the story lady at the Ripon Public Library, running Storytime for many years and recognized by generations of children for years afterward.
Barbara was a charter member of the Friends of the Library and ran the Friends of the Library booksale for many years. She was a founding member of PACE (Parents and Children for Excellence), which gave birth to the ACE program (Advance College Experience) for kids. She played violin in the Ripon College Orchestra for 24 years and encouraged her children and grandchildren to be involved in music. In more recent years she had served on the board of the Ripon Historical Society.
She is survived by her seven children: Brian, Cleveland Heights, OH; Leslie (Chris Gecik), Columbus, OH; Patty (Mark Ruddy), Eau Claire; David (Dana), Ripon; Stuart (Kitty), Raleigh, NC; Mike (Cathy), East Lansing, MI; and Bobbie, St. Paul, MN. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Andrew and Stephen Janssen, Eau Claire; Kimberly Scott, Washington, D.C.; David A. Scott, East Lansing, MI; Ian Scott, Boston, MA; Erica Scott, Raleigh, NC; Danielle Scott, Edinburgh, Scotland; and Lindsey Scott, Ripon. She was predeceased by her parents, Olga and Jacob Hegg; her husband, Earle Stanley Scott, her sisters Agnes and Holly Hegg, and her brothers, Sterling and Royce.
There will be no funeral, per her request, but there will be a celebration of her life in early summer. Memorials may be sent to the Friends of the Ripon Public Library, 120 Jefferson St., Ripon, WI 54971.
