Bernard Ben Witkowski, age 77, of 2927 Braun Ct, Neenah, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2006 at Vallhaven Care Center, Neenah.
Born on December 1, 1928, Ben was the son of Felix and Celia (Schneckenberg) Witkowski in Ripon, WI. A graduate of Ripon High School, Class of 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952. Upon returning he married Betty Rosenthal on July 4, 1953 in Ripon. He worked at Speed Queen for a short time, then was employed by the State Dept. of Corrections for 32 years as a prison guard. He was a member of the Twin City Rod and Gun Club of Neenah.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty, their five children; James (Sandy) Witkowski of Poy Sippi, Janet (Larry) Searl of Weyauwega, Mark (Jill) Witkowski of Deerfield, Robert (Carla) Witkowski of Kewaunee, and Nancy (John) Mulvey of Neenah.
Grandchildren; Jerry (Clare) Zimmerman of Appleton, Tami (Brian) Buttrey of Martin, TN, Tony Searl and special friend Tina Borley of Indianapolis, IN, Luke Searl and special friend Rachel Rick of Neenah, Aaron (Vanessa) Witkowski of Columbia, MO, Bryan (Lisa) Witkowski of Madison, Jesse (Christina) Witkowski of Portland, OR, Molly (Mark) Van Handel of Kimberly, Jake Witkowski and special friend Stephanie Miller of Appleton, Jack Witkowski and Maggie Witkowski both of Kewaunee, Jonathan Mulvey and McKenna Mulvey of Neenah. Great-grandchildren ; Janel Zimmerman, Ashley Zimmerman, Brianna Buttrey, Brayden Buttrey, Aidan Miller, Morgan Witkowski, and Jack Van Handel. Brothers; Donald Witkowski of Marshall, WI, Andy (Darlene) Witkowski of Ripon, and Michael (Donna) Levenhagen of Ripon, sisters; Florence Hoch of Geneseo, IL, Louise (Jim) Hopp of Ripon, and Lorraine Teenie Witkowski of Ripon.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, his mother in law and father in law, his twin sister; Beatrice Chikowski, brothers in law, sisters in law and 3 nephews.
A prayer service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at 7:30 pm at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, with Rev. Robert A. Fictum officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 3:30 pm until the time of the service. Private family interment will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Town of Ripon with full Military Honors conducted at the graveside. A memorial has been established in his name.
