Bernice Bartz, age 79, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011, at her home with her family by her side.
Bernice was born June 17, 1931, in New Richmond, WI, the daughter of Clarence and Grace (Olsen) Duer. She graduated from Fond du Lac High School and received an undergraduate degree from UW Madison. It was at college, Bernice met James Bartz and in 1953, they were married in New Richmond.
Survivors include her husband, James; one daughter, Susan (Don) Schmitz of Fond du Lac, WI; two sons, Stephen (Ann) Bartz of Columbia Heights, MN and Eric (Jenny) Bartz of Alabama; grandchildren, Ann (Tim) Schmitz-Guy, Laura and Julie Schmitz, Kara, Caleb, Elise and Skye Bartz; great-grandchildren, Brynn and Makenna Schmitz-Guy; cousins, Barbara (Ed) Johnson of Burlington, WI and Bob (Carol) Thomas of Minnetonka, MN; brothers-in-law, Bill (Joyce) Bartz of Ripon, WI and Jerry (Sharon) Bartz of Gainsville, FL; life long friend, Helen Jarchow of Weyawega, WI and many nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, aunts and one uncle and cousin, Jane Brown.
Bernice was an active member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ and always enjoyed singing in church choirs. She was a member of the Ripon Lioness Club, League of Women Voters, and a strong supporter of education and the arts. She loved gardening, cooking and music. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and her favorite saying was “uff-da”.
Visitation for Bernice Bartz will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011, from 9:30 – 11:00 am at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, 343 Scott St. Ripon, WI 54971.
Memorial Service for Bernice Bartz will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at 11:00 am at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon. Reverend Mark R. West will officiate. Memorials may be given to the Senior Choir at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ.
