Beth Ryder

October 16, 1916 — November 28, 2002

Beth L. Ryder, age 86 of Ripon, died Thursday, November 28, 2002, at the Ripon Medical Center, as a result of complications from an infection.

Beth was born October 16, 1916, the daughter of L. Anthony and Florence E. (Anderson) Dailey of Waterloo, Iowa. She received her teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers’ College in 1939, and taught in Perry, Lohrville and Manley, Iowa. In the early ‘40’s she moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin with her parents. It was there she was inspired to volunteer for the American Red Cross, and as a staff assistant, was assigned to military bases in Australia, the Philippines, Korea and Japan for several years. When she returned from overseas to Oshkosh, she continued working for the Red Cross - now as Executive Director in the local office. On February 5, 1949, in Chicago, she married Leon Wallace Ryder, a former National Sales Manager of Speed Queen. They settled on his farm in Ripon, where she remained for the next 53 years, even after Leon’s early death in 1963. Beth immersed herself in local organizations; among them the Ripon Women’s Club, Science Club, Garden Club, Bradford Circle, and a Sewing Club in Oshkosh. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ripon.

Beth celebrated life for 86 years.

She is survived by her three children, Noel Ryder (Jackie Means) of Green Bay, Greg Ryder (Julie) of Durango, Colorado and Susan Ryder of New York, New York. Her grandchildren, born to Noel and to Ingrid Freitag Ryder of Sturgeon Bay, are Christel Ryder and Noelle Ryder – both of Stevens Point – April Ryder of Mulhall, Oklahoma and Benjamin Ryder of Green Bay. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mrs. Carlton (Dorothy) Dailey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, two nieces, Jan Petermann of Cedar Rapids and Diann Freitag of Middletown, New York. One stepson, Lawrence Ryder (Beverly) of Madison, his family and the family of Jack Ryder (Doris) also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leon, her brother Carlton, and her stepson Jack Ryder and his wife, Doris.

A Memorial Service for Beth Ryder will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2002 at 11:00 am, at the First Congregational Church in Ripon. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church of Ripon or The LIGHTHOUSE for the Blind.
