Betsy Bloch, age 85, of Green Lake/Markesan, WI, died on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at the Harbor Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fond du Lac.
Betsy was born Wednesday, September 24, 1930 to Milton L. and Maude (Wood) Stellmacher as an only daughter. Betsy lived her entire life in the Green Lake area. Beginning with elementary school in Fairwater, WI, followed by graduation from Ripon High School. Immediately after graduation she attended UW LaCrosse and graduated 4 years later. She worked at Camp Robinhood as a camp counselor, and later as a Physical Education teacher in Ripon and Green Lake public schools. During college years, she met Arlin Bloch on a blind date. Marriage followed in Ripon, on June 14, 1952. Together they raised four children during which time she was a homemaker. Betsy was an avid seamstress and knitter, swimming enthusiast and enjoyed almost any sport. She was an active member of the Green Lake County Homemakers and Girl Scouts organizations for many years and a faithful member of Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church where she volunteered and taught Sunday school. Betsy and Arlin both loved Big Green Lake and spent many, many days on the water and ice enjoying its beauty and recreation.
Survivors include daughter, Susie (Tom) Riek of Green Lake, WI, with grandsons, Gregg (Jen) Riek and great-grandson, Carter and great-granddaughter, Hattie of Wanakee, WI and Michael (Mallory) Riek of Green Lake, WI; son, John (Sue Ellen) Bloch of Green Lake, WI with granddaughter, Kala Bloch and great-grandson, Silas Kok of Orcas Island, WA, granddaughter, Megan (Adam) Sacho and great-grandson, Levi Sacho of Wauconda, IL and grandson, Paul Bloch of Bozeman, MT; son, Peter (Jodi) Bloch and granddaughters, Lily and Izzie Bloch of Madison, WI and brother-in-law, Willis Butch Bloch of Ripon, WI. Betsy was further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the area. Betsy was preceded in death by her husband, Arlin; daughter, Amy and her parents.
Visitation for Betsy will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015, from 10:30 11:30 am at Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church, W3278 Cty Rd. K, Markesan, WI 53946.
Memorial Service for Betsy will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:30 am, at Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church in Markesan. Pastor Ryan Jingst will officiate. All are welcome to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the church hall. A memorial has been established at Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church, P.O. Box 434, Markesan, WI 53946.
