Calvin J. Schaub, age 65, of 411 Joy Avenue, Ripon, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2003, in the home he built.
Cal was born July 2, 1938, in a farmhouse of the Schaub homestead, in Washington County, WI, the son of Verna M.K. (Spoerl) and Calvin G. Schaub. He graduated from Kewaskum High School (1956), B.A. from Lakeland College (1960) and M.A. from the University of Wisconsin (1967). He married Patricia Petzold on August 19, 1961, in Kiel, WI. Cal was a German teacher at Ripon High School for 20 years before establishing the Cal Schaub Insurance Agency. He worked as an Insurance Agent for 21 years. He was a member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ, serving in various roles as Church Council President and Secretary, Sunday School teacher, Church School Superintendent and various other committees. Cal was involved in many service organizations including Ripon Rotary since 1984, where he held positions as President, Board of Directors, Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, Asst Gov, Youth Exchange program and Board of Directors. He belonged to several teacher organizations including the Ripon Teachers Association, WI Education Assoc., National Education Assoc. and the American Assoc. of Teachers of German. He also served on the Ripon Main Street Board, the United Way Board, Ripon Chamber of Commerce, the Ripon Optimist Club, Lakeland College Board, Ripon American Chapter Advisor to student club and foreign students, Association of Life Underwriters and also worked with the Boy Scouts in the early 1980s. Cal and Pat also created the Block Parents Program in the 1970s-1980s. Throughout his life, Cal enjoyed woodworking, building and renovation projects, travel, reading and outdoor activities.
Survivors include his wife, Pat of Ripon; Son, Rev. Craig (Cynthia Needham) Schaub of Syracuse, NY; Son, Dr. Mark (Gayle) Schaub and their children, Henry and Walter of Grand Rapids, MI; and Daughter, Amyliz of Minneapolis, MN. He is also survived by brothers Paul of Cedarburg, WI and Harvey of Waupun, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Monday, November 24, 2003, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. Services will be Tuesday, November 25 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, at Our Saviours United Church of Christ, Ripon. Rev. Mark R. West will officiate. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, City of Ripon. Memorials may be directed to Lakeland College or Our Saviours UCC, Ripon.
