Carl Giese, 72, of Markesan, died Sunday, October 18, 1998, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 30, 1926, in Fond du Lac, a son to the late Otto and Laura (Strelow) Giese. He was educated in Springvale and Oakfield, and graduated from Rosendale High School. He later served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1944-1945. On January 7, 1950, he married the former Evelyn A. Marcoe at Presentation Parish in N. Fond du Lac. Carl was a jack of all trades, being employed at many places which include the A.H. Bluemke and Sons in Rosendale, Wells Mfg Co. in Fond du Lac, Frank Neff Co. in Peebles, John Reinhardt Trucking in Fond du Lac and the Green Giant Canning Co. in Rosendale. He was best known as the owner of the Van Dyne Lanes for 26 years, which he operated with his wife and children. He was a member of the Van Dyne Volunteer Fire Department, the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Zerfas-Chapter 664, Trier-Puddy Post of the American Legion, and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ripon. His hobbies included clockmaking, woodworking, ceramics, bowling, golfing and hunting. Carl looked forward to his Tuesday afternoons at the Manchester Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Dennis Giese of Rosendale, Faye (Buff) Grover of Ripon, Steve (Bev) Giese of Rosend ale and Carleen (Roger) Norton of Van Dyne; and grandchildren, Stephany & Laura Grover, Benji & Brittany Giese, and Justin & Nicholas Norton. He was preceded in death by his parents and I sister.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 20, 1998, from 5 until 8 PM, with a Rosary at 6:30 PM, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. Visitation will also be on Wednesday from 10 AM until the hour of the Mass at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, October 21, 1998, at 11 AM at the church with Father John A. Schmitz officiating. Interment will be in the Rosendale Cemetery, Rosendale. A memorial has been established.
