Caroline (Carrie) Ethel Crook, age 91, of Ripon, passed away Thursday morning, May 15, 2003, at Michalenes in Ripon.
She was born December 11, 1911, on the family farm on Koro Road in the Town of Nepeuskun, Winnebago County, the daughter of John and Ida (Frank) Konow. She started her schooling at Meadowbrook School about ½ mile from the family farm. By horse she traveled to Berlin High School and Berlin Normal, graduating from both. After completion of schooling, she moved to Ripon and was a Nanny. Carrie met Donald Crook and they married June 15, 1939, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ripon. She was a member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ and an Honorary Member of the churchs Womens Guild.
After her marriage she was a professional mother, bookkeeper and church custodian. She was a one-family oriented loving person, strong in convictions of right and wrong. One thing that was very important to her was that you always leave the meal table having a clean plate. She had outstanding handwriting, and did knitting, crocheting, sewing and embroidery work all her life until the very end. One thing she didnt do was tatting, as Ella did that and she didnt want to compete with her sister. Her schedule for the week was wash clothes on Monday, iron on Tuesday, mend on Wednesday, shop on Thursday, clean on Friday, bake on Saturday, and walk down the railroad tracks to church on Sunday.
Carrie is survived by a son, William Crook and his wife, Janet of Ripon; and grandson, Wiet and his wife, Carrie of Bowling Green, KY. She is further survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Konow and Florence Crook, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Charles, Ervin, David and Louis; and sister, Ella.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Our Saviours United Church of Christ, Ripon with Rev. Mark R. West officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Nepeuskun Cemetery, Town of Nepeuskun.
