Caryl "Bob" Burling

Caryl Robert “Bob” Burling, age 81, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon.

Bob was born on December 25, 1931, in Oshkosh, WI, the son of Earl F. and Viola (Hamann) Burling. He graduated from Ripon High School and on May 3, 1952, Bob married Marjorie Wepner in Ripon. Bob served our country from 1952 to 1954 in the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a draftsman for Speed Queen between the years of 1954 and 1965. From 1965 to 1969, he owned Mick’s Grocery in Ripon and from 1969 to 1972 Bob’s Super Foods in Lake Geneva. Bob returned to Ripon in 1976 as a retail counselor for Roundy’s Grocery Stores. He later worked for Wausau Homes and Ace Hardware. Bob was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon, Ripon Rifle and Pistol Club and Ripon Boy Scouts.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marjorie A. Burling of Ripon, WI; four children, Thomas (Kathy) Burling of Green Lake, WI, Jane (James) Parkinson of Monroe, WI, Judith (Eric) Foust of St. Michael, MN and Nancy (John) Kirtley of Mequon, WI; ten grandchildren, Nicholas (Rachel) Burling of Lake Mills, WI, Hilary (Daniel) Leonard of Ripon, WI, Katherine (Daniel) Reinbold of Berlin, WI, Grace Burling of Green Lake, WI, Erika, Joel and Seth Foust of St. Michael, MN and Justin, Laura and Sarah Kirtley of Mequon, WI; four great-grandchildren, Sydney and Owen Burling, Elijah Reinbold and Theodore Leonard; nephew, Paul (Nancy) Fuhremann Jr.; nieces, Barbara Daane and Carol (Jerry) Murphy; Bob’s in-laws, Vera Wepner of Ripon, WI, Cyril and Betty Rhode of Hartford, WI and Verne and Sylvia Wepner of Oshkosh, WI and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, LaVern (Paul) Fuhremann and Florence “Babe” Burling and his in-laws, John Wepner, Ray and Alice Prellwitz and Robert and Connie Wepner.

Visitation for Bob will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, from 5 – 7:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971 and again on Thursday, May 2, 2013, from 10 – 11:00am at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 401 W. Fond du Lac St., Ripon, WI 54971.

Funeral service for Bob will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 11:00 am at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 401 W. Fond du Lac St., Ripon, WI 54971. Reverend Joshua Pegram will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Garden of the Cross Cemetery in Ripon. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon.
