Charles W. Hoover, 80, of Fond du Lac, died Saturday, December 15, 2001, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.
Charlie Brown, as his friends knew him, was born in Cuba, Kansas, to Dallas and Winnifred Napier Hoover on July 19, 1921. After graduating in 1939 from Narka High School, in Narka, Nebraska, he enlisted in the US Army (Company C, 111th infantry of Beatrice, Nebraska) and later, the National Guard. During his ten years of military service he attained the rank of First Lieutenant. He received the Expert in Infantry Badge, Good Conduct and Victory medals, and the American Theatre and American Defense Ribbons.
He had a long, successful career as a sales representative for several national furniture manufacturers. During his 50 years in the industry, he traveled extensively throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In 1992, he served as President of the Wisconsin Home Furnishings Association and was named sales representative of the year by that organization in 1993. He was also a member of the National Home Furnishings Association until his retirement in 1996.
He was a resident of Fond du Lac for more than forty years and was a member of the Elks Club, the American Legion, and the VFW, as well as a former member of South Hills Country Club.
Survivors include 1 daughter, Cathy (Brooks) Feldmann of Neenah, Wisconsin; three sons, Michael of Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, Richard of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Roger (Tricia) of Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin; 4 grandchildren (Jennifer, Katherine, Nicholas, and Chasen); one brother, Darwin of Beatrice, Nebraska; a former wife of 49 years, Mary Lou, of Fond du Lac; and numerous relatives and friends.
His parents, five brothers, and three sisters precede him in death. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Fond du Lac, WI.
