Cheryl A. Boyd

Cheryl A. Boyd, age 74, of Ripon, WI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at home with her loving family by her side.

Cheryl was born on October 7, 1950 in Morgantown, WV, daughter of Frederic and Irene (Blosser) Champnella. She graduated from Riverview High School in Riverview, MI, and went on to briefly attend Eastern Michigan University. On August 1, 1970 she married Ernest “Ernie” Boyd in Riverview. For 27 years they made their home in Lincoln Park, MI, where Cheryl was a dedicated stay-at-home-mom, raising their two children and devoting herself to their activities that included many seasons of enthusiastic football support and nearly ten years of coaching cheerleading. After Ernie’s retirement, they moved to Cadiz, KY, where she worked as the children’s librarian for 20 years at Trigg County Public Library along with being active in volunteer work with the Food Pantry and the VFW Ladies’ Auxilliary. A skilled and avid quilter, she was a long-time member of the Trigg County Quilter’s Guild. Cheryl and Ernie moved to Ripon to be closer to her daughter’s family and she again became active in the community, participating and volunteering at the Ripon Senior Center and with the VFW and American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliaries. She was the secretary of the Sew Happy Stitchers quilting group in Ripon and a member of the Lakeside Quilters in Oshkosh.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Ernest Boyd of Ripon, WI; a son, Gregory (Ashlee) Boyd of Hopkinsville, KY; daughter, Amy (Ben) Smith of Butte des Morts, WI; grandchildren, Jackson, Landon, Emerson, and Rowan Boyd, Frankie, Poppy, Nici, Gus, and Sol Smith; a brother, Rick (Stephanie) Champnella; a sister, Linda (Robert) Dean; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Ron) Beaton, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederic and Irene Champnella; in-laws, Ernest and Gui Eula Boyd; a sister, Sandy Brunell; and two brothers, Dennis and David Champnella.

Visitation for Cheryl will be held from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Oratory, 211 N. Maple Ave., Green Bay, WI 54303. Inurnment will take place at Western Kentucky Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Cheryl’s name to the American Cancer Society.
