Clarence L. Bourland, 84, of Fond du Lac, WI, was called to his eternal home on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 surrounded by the love of his family.
Clarence was born May 5, 1927, in Chicago, IL, the son of Clarence Elgin and Laura (Satrum) Bourland. He graduated from Browns Valley High School in Browns Valley, MN in 1945 and served our country in the United States Merchant Marine from 1945-1948. On March 12, 1960, Clarence married Delores Rehm in Milwaukee, WI. He worked in various manufacturing and service jobs throughout his life and retired from Ripon College in 1992 after 17 years of service.
Clarence loved to travel and at age 63 fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting Paris, France. Clarence also loved history including Civil War re-enactments and mountain man rendezvous. He was an avid buckskinner, black powder gun hunter, artist, model ship builder, volunteer, and cook. Clarence was active in the Ripon Rifle and Pistol Club and was a member of the Eagles Club of Fond du Lac.
Most of all, Clarence was a devoted loving father and loyal caring friend. He was kind and gentle and deeply touched the lives of everyone he met. His adventurous spirit, bright smile, sense of humor and unconditional love will be greatly missed.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Delores Bourland of Green Lake, WI; children Dawn Bourland of Green Lake, WI, Diane (Nate) Grahl of Fond du Lac, WI, Dana (Ray) Knebel of Ripon, WI and Mark Bourland of Perryton, Texas; two grandchildren Michael and Maria Grahl of Fond du Lac, WI; step daughter Julie Ericksen of Palm City, Florida; step son-in-law Jay Killeen of Janesville, WI; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Howard Maxfield, Sisters Bernice Darrington and Catherine Smith, and step-daughter Beverly Killeen.
Visitation for Clarence Bourland will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012 from 10 am to 12 pm at Grace Reformed Church, 163 East 18th Street, Fond du Lac, WI 54935.
A memorial service for Clarence Bourland will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 12:00 pm at Grace Reformed Church in Fond du Lac, WI. Pastor Barry Vegter will officiate. Inurnment will be at Garden of the Cross Cemetery in Ripon at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Home of Hope, 400 County Road K, Fond du Lac, WI 54937.
