Clarence Sauerbrei

July 20, 1909 — March 16, 2003

Clarence Sauerbrei, age 93, of Markesan, formerly of Ripon, passed away on March 16, 2003, surrounded by his family.

Clarence was born July 20, 1909 to Ernest and Anna (Abe) Sauerbrei. On November 2, 1940 he married Irma Klawitter in Green Lake on the family farm. After their marriage they took over the family farm until his retirement in 1976 when they moved to Ripon. After his retirement he frequently visited the farm where he continued to grow a large garden and enjoy spending time with his wife. His wife, Irma, passed away in December, 1990. They had celebrated 50 years of marriage. Over the past several years Clarence enjoyed watching his family grow with the marriage of his grandchildren and the births of his great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon for 85 years.

Clarence is survived by two sons; Harold (Nancy) Sauerbrei and Donald (Sharon) Sauerbrei both of Markesan. Four grandchildren; Dennis (Nancy) Sauerbrei of Markesan, Melody (Brian) Paul of Pardeeville, Roxann Sauerbrei and her fiancé, Judd Becker of Pardeeville and Becky (Tim) Kovalaske of Ripon. Nine great-grandchildren; Matthew and Karen Lemke, Veronica Sauerbrei, Elizabeth, Brandon and Cody Paul, Durand, T.J. and Emily Kovalaske. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irma, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2003, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. Services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Immanuel United Methodist Church of Ripon. Rev. David A. Busker will officiate. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, City of Ripon. A memorial has been established.
