Cora M. Lawson, age 78, of Brandon, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Ripon Medical Center.
Cora was born on November 28, 1927 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Dunsmoor) Turner. She graduated from Brandon High School, Moraine Park Technical College, and Marian College. Cora was a member of the Brandon United Methodist Church, charter member of Ripon Lioness Club, Fairwater Lions Club, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 378, and Church Women United. She worked for Speed Queen in Ripon, Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon, and the United States Post Office in Fairwater. On June 3, 1948, she married Jabin Lawson in Brandon where they farmed for many years. Cora volunteered her time to many area organizations right up until the time of her death. She received the 2006 Cheers for Volunteers Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award, and the Lions International Melvin Jones Fellowship. She also prepared taxes at the Ripon Senior Center and served as Town Clerk for the Town of Springvale for many years. She started the Fond du Lac County Student Government days through the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include; two daughters, Terri (Stanley) Harmsen of Fairwater, and JoEllen Hernandez of Ripon; four sons, Greg (Nancy) Lawson of Fairwater, Steven (Julie) Lawson of Fond du Lac, Robert Lawson of Brandon, and Michael (Cystal) Lawson of Fond du Lac, 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law Lois Lawson and Violet Hartman. Cora was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 50 years Jabin Lawson, son Thomas Lawson, an infant son, an infant daughter, sister Margaret DeBoer, brother James Turner, and brother-in-law Charles Lawson.
Visitation: for Cora M. Lawson will be held on Monday, November 20, 2006 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, and again on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 from 10-11:00 a.m. at the Brandon United Methodist Church in Brandon.
A Memorial Service: for Cora M. Lawson will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brandon United Methodist Church in Brandon with Reverend Laura Yates officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. A Memorial has been established.
