Dana Billings

Mr. Dana Baird Billings, age 72, of Ripon, WI, passed away Thursday, January 25, 1990, at Ripon Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 13, 1917, in Portage, a son to Dana William and Jeannette (Baird) Billings. On March 21, 1942, he married Elizabeth Merritt Buchick at Randolph Field, TX.

Mr. Billings was educated in Portage. He was a graduate of Ripon High School and was a 1939 graduate of Ripon College. He had been Plant Engineer at Fabriko in Green Lake for 35 years and resided in Ripon since 1948. He was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ripon.

Mr. Billings served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII as a member of the 371st Squadron of the 307th Bombardment Group. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and in lieu of a Second Cross, a Gold Star from the U.S. Navy. He was awarded the Air Medal, a Silver Oak Leaf, a Bronze Oak Leaf and other unit awards.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; four sons, Dana F. (Palma) of Huntsville, AL, Peter B. (Malinee) of San Diego, CA, Gordon C. (Nancy) of Sparta and Paul W. (Paula) of Green Lake; one daughter, Jeannette Dalton of Fredonia, WI; 10 grandchildren and a sister, Susanne Reichmuth of Oshkosh.

Visitation for Mr. Billings will be held on Sunday, January 28, 1990, from 6 – 8:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home where a Rosary will be recited at 8:00 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Billings will be held on Monday, January 29, 1990, at 11:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ripon. Reverend John A. Schmitz will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in the Town of Ripon. A memorial is being established.
