David Gittens

February 7, 1937 — July 31, 2003

David Peter Gittens, age 66, of Ripon, passed away July 31, 2003 in Ripon. He was born February 7, 1937, in the city of La Crosse, WI, to Joseph M. & Valeria E. (Gautsch) Gittens of La Crescent, MN. On August 29, 1964, he married Patricia Ann Boese of Ripon.

He graduated from La Crosse Aquinas High School in 1955 and La Crosse State University (UW-La Crosse) in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He taught 8th grade math & science at Farnsworth Middle School in Sheboygan, WI from 1964-67. He then moved to Ripon to begin a 22-year career at Fabriko, Inc. in Green Lake, WI where he was Vice President of Production and a member of the Board of Directors. Since 1992 he has owned Alan’s Jewelry in downtown Ripon.

Dave was a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ where he served on the church council, sang in the senior Choir, was a mentor in the confirmation program and a member of the Serendipity Bible Study group. He was a member and past president of the Ripon Rotary Club, a board member for Ripon Community Credit Union, member and past president of the Ripon Chamber of Commerce, member and past chairman of the Ripon Business Association, member of the Ripon Main Street Association board and Developmental Committee, and past Ripon School Board member. He was also very involved in Dicken’s of a Christmas and various other community activities. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends on Green Lake as well as golfing in the Monday Men’s Golf League at Lawsonia Links in Green Lake.

Survivors include his wife Patricia of Ripon; son Christopher (Jennifer) of Racine; daughter Jennifer (Benjamin) Welk of Omaha, NE; grandson William Gittens of Racine; sister Virginia (Gene) Dockweiler of La Crescent, MN; brother Joseph (Donna) Gittens of La Crosse, WI; sister-in-law Mary (Sherwood) Zink of Madison; brother-in-law Alan (Mary) Boese of Richmond, VA; and various nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. His parents preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2003 at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2003, at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ on Scott Street in Ripon with Pastor Mark West officiating. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Our Saviour’s UCC and Hospice Hope.
