David Manthei, age 57, of Ripon, WI died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the Fond du Lac County Health Care Center, Harbor Haven Nursing Home, Fond du Lac, WI.
David was born December 17, 1945, in Fond du Lac, the son of Harold and Helen Manthei of Ripon. David was a special person with Down syndrome. David resided at his home in Ripon for 57 years. He resided at Hilltop House group home in Ripon for four months prior to moving to the Health Care Center.
David attended Ripon Public Schools kindergarten and special education class taught by Mrs. Dorothy Gehrke, first at Alice Callen Elementary school, then at Roosevelt Elementary and Central Elementary until 1965. In the 1960’s David received rehabilitation services at the Ripon Cerebral Palsy Center, which later became Ripon Area Service Center, a sheltered workshop.
David was employed by Ripon Area Service Center for 37 and one half years, retiring in February 2003. David enjoyed listening to polka music and watching television shows, Duke’s of Hazard and Wheel of Fortune. David was a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, Ripon. He was preceded in death by his father in 1998. Surviving family members include his mother, Helen of Ripon; brother, Philip (Susan) and nephew, Steven of Ripon; uncle, Harold (Miriam) Huth of Markesan and niece, Karen (John) Evans of Stone Mountain, GA.
Funeral services for David Manthei will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Rev. Mark R. West will officiate. Interment will be in the Garden of the Cross Cemetery, City of Ripon.
