Donald “Don” A. Froehlicher, age 90, of Plymouth, WI (formerly of Green Lake), departed peacefully from Gate A-1 on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Rocky Knoll Nursing Home in Plymouth.
Don arrived on October 2, 1932 in Evanston, IL, son to Julius and Hazel (Minnich) Froehlicher. He graduated from the St. George High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant from 1952-1956. In 1957 Don married Sylvia Church at Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina. He was an Airline Captain and proudly flew domestic and international flights for American Airlines for 35 years.
When he wasn’t in the sky, Don enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, puzzles and watching the Chicago Cubs. He was a family man who cherished time with his family and loved gifting them. Don was a kind man with a wonderful sense of humor. His kind heart was extended to animals as well; he always fed the birds and stray cats near his home. He was a member of the American Legion Post 306 Green Lake, Silver Stripes, Gray Eagles, EAA Chapter 252 Oshkosh, Tuscumbia Country Club and Club Champion in 1997.
Don is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Bastasic of Sheboygan, WI; 3 grandchildren, Michael Holland, Daniel (Consuela) Holland, Alex Bastasic; 2 great-grandchildren, Hayden and Emori Holland; sister, Paulette (Les) Helfers; many nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws; and his kitty, Skiddish. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Froehlicher; daughter, Valerie Gish; parents, Julius and Hazel Froehlicher; and brother, Richard Froehlicher.
Visitation for Don will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 am on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 530 Ruth St., Green Lake, WI 54971.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Don will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Our Lady of the Lake in Green Lake, with Father Tony Thirumalareddy officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake.
