Donald E. Shurpit, age 75, of Stevens Point, formerly of Ripon Wisconsin passed away on Sunday, February 24th, 2008, after a lengthy illness at the Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, surrounded by loved ones.
Donald was born on October 10th, 1932, the son of Edmund and Bernice (Brooks) Shurpit. Donald graduated Princeton High School in 1951, then served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and was decorated with a bronze service star medal for his service in the Korean War in 1954. On September 1ST, 1956 he married Mary Markowski at St Michaels Catholic Church in Berlin Wisconsin. He worked proudly as an inspector in Quality Control for Speed Queen Laundry of Ripon for 43 years before retiring in 1995. As a young man he loved pheasant hunting and ice fishing. Don was very lucky at playing cards, and loved spending time visiting with his family. He also enjoyed camping, and was an avid gardener. Donald was an active member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, 218 Blossom Street, Ripon and for many years was a Sunday teller.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary, and one daughter Susan Hageman of Ripon, four sons, Thomas (Linda) Shurpit of Fond du Lac, David (Pamela) Shurpit of Waupun, Scott (Tasha) Shurpit of Amherst and Dennis (Nancy) Shurpit of Fond du Lac; 12 grandchildren, Kurtis, Kristine, Lisa, Bradly, Jeffery, Katrina, Randi, Carson, Garrett, Addison, Collin and Riley; and two great grandchildren, Kaleb and Savannah.
Don is further survived by two sisters, Evelyn (William) Louden of Ripon and Shirley (Harold) Roehl of Princeton. Two brother-in-laws, Vincent (Wilma) Markowski of Fond du Lac, and Anthony (Nora) Markowski of Hudson. Three sister-in-laws Barb Shilobrit of Oshkosh, Fran (Robert) Grasee of Ripon, and Lori Markowski of Appleton. Don is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents , a brother Eugene, and sister Ruth Schultz. His brother-in-laws Alexander Shilobrit, August Markowski, and Peter Markowski; sister-in-laws, SR. Florita and Genevieve Markowski also preceded him in death.
Visitation for Donald E. Shurpit will be held from 9:00 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 at St. Catherines Catholic Church, 218 Blossom St. Ripon.
Mass of Christian Burial for Donald E. Shurpit will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherines Catholic Church, 218 Blossom St. Ripon with Reverend Robert A. Fictum officiating. Interment will follow in St Patricks Cemetery, Town of Ripon. A memorial has been established.
