Donald E. Stende, age 86, of Ripon, died Wednesday, September 29, 1999, at Grancare Nursing Center in Fond du Lac.
He was born June 21, 1913, in Ulen, MN, a son to John and Della (Jensen) Stende. He attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, MN, and was an elementary school teacher. He served in the Army Infantry during World War II. On April 18, 1942, he married Martha De Leuw. Prior to moving to Ripon in 1972, they lived in Fargo, ND where he clerked at the post office. He was a member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ, Ripon.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Mickey Stende; 1 daughter, Martha Marty Nitzke of Ripon; 2 sons, John Stende of W. Fargo, ND and Keith Stende of Des Moines, IA; 6 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Sidney Stende of Great Falls, MT and Russell Stende of Anoka, MN; and 2 sisters, Irene Stende of Ulen, MN and Ruby Craik of Fargo, ND.
A memorial service for Donald E. Stende will be held Saturday, October 2, 1999, at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Our Saviours United Church of Christ with the Reverend Eric Burnard officiating. Private inurnment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials are requested to be sent to the Anne Carlsen Center for Children, 301 7th Ave N.W., Jamestown, ND 58401, in his name.
