Donald Thiem

February 25, 1945 — November 17, 2014

On Monday, November 17, 2014, the world lost a great husband, dad and grandpa. Donald “Donnie” Carl Thiem age 69, of Green Lake, WI, passed away unexpectantly of natural causes.

Donnie was born on February 25, 1945, in Ripon, WI, the son of Herbert and Mildred (Thiel) Thiem. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon. On September 2, 1967, he married the love of his life, Sandy Thomsen. Donnie farmed the family dairy farm until 1986. He then worked for Kinas Excavating in Markesan until his death. Donnie loved life. He loved to work the soil and cruise around in his old ’66 Ford Fairlane. Donnie loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved to dance, have fun and go off roading. Donnie was a kind and generous man with a zest for life. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help with anything. Donnie was a special guy, that “one of kind” kind of guy.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandy Thiem of Green Lake, WI; four children, James (Tammy) Thiem, Jennifer (Kelly) Voeltner, Matt (Jeni Sommerfeldt) Thiem and Brian (Karla) Thiem all of Ripon, WI; eight grandchildren, Tanner Voeltner, Ashliegh Gehrke, Mackenzie Voeltner, Shaylen Thiem, Faith Thiem, Colton Thiem, Mia Thiem and Aidan Thiem; sister, Beverly Berger of Beaver Dam, WI; parent in-laws, Roy and Gerry Nance of Green Lake, WI; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Thiem of Ripon, WI and Joy (Larry) Larson of North Carolina; three brothers-in-law, Bud (Lynn) Thomsen, Russ (Polly) Thomsen and Bill Thomsen all of North Carolina; step-sister-in-law, Sandy Justus of Fort Atkinson, WI and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Dylan Thiem; brother, Herbie Thiem; father-in-law, Walter Thomsen; sisters-in-law, Valerie Thomsen and Karen Thomsen and brother-in-law, Kenny Berger.
