Dorothy Hargrave

Dorothy Butler Hargrave passed away at her home in Ripon on Sunday, July1, 2001.

She was born to William and Anna (Meyer) Butler in Rosendale Township on February 8, 1918. Dorothy graduated from Ripon High School in 1935. She received a baccalaureate degree from Ripon College in 1939, a kindergarten teaching certificate from National College of Education in 1940 and a Masters of Education from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 1963. She taught kindergarten at Port Edwards and in the Ripon School District for many years.

Dorothy was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC, South Woods Park Association, Ripon Library Association, Ripon Historical Society, Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association, Ripon Educational Club and the Waupun Chapter #144 – Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her beloved husband Alan of 58 years, two sons, A. Douglas (Sharlene) of Charlottesville, VA and Dr. John Walter (Libby) of Pensacola FL, one daughter, Ann H. (Chuck) Schob of Fond du Lac, WI and six grandchildren, Kristen, Midori, and Alexander Hargrave of Charlottesville, VA, Dr. Jennifer Hargrave of San Diego, CA, Rebecca Schob of Tivoli, NY and Steven Schob of Fond du Lac, WI. Her parents and two brothers Leslie W. Butler and Robert C. Butler preceded her in death.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 5, 2001 from 5 – 7:30 pm followed by a service of the Order of the Eastern Star #144 at 7:30 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Services will be held Friday, July 6, 2001, at 11:00 am with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service at First Congregational Church UCC, Ripon with Dr. Brian Smith officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Hope/Central Wisconsin Branch, 114 N. Pearl St. Berlin, WI 54923.
