Dr. Gustave Bloch

Dr. Gustave Burton "Burt" Bloch, age 95, of Green Lake, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at home with his loving wife of 68 years, Mary, at his side.

Burt was born November 25, 1921, in New London, WI, son of the late William Frederick and Lydia Dorothy (Gneich) Bloch. He graduated with the class of 1940 from Neenah High School. He attended UW Madison as an undergraduate before enlisting in the U.S Army Air Corp. Burt courageously served our country in WWII in the 772nd Bomb Squadron as a B17 bombardier. He was shot down and was a prisoner of war. Burt received several purple hearts for his service and dedication. After surviving the war, he returned to the States and graduated from Marquette University dental school then attended University of Minnesota for Dental Surgery.

On June 21, 1949, Burt was married to Mary Ellyn Palmer. The couple resided in Lancaster, WI where Burt practiced his dentistry for many years. Together they raised nine children. They enjoyed traveling the world and spending many winters in Puerto Rico.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Green Lake; children: Debby Bloch , Tia (Lou) Heitke, Jeff Bloch, Tim Bloch, Mimi (Tom) Walton, Ann - deceased (Scott) Wendler, Leslie (Guy) Gearing, Kelly Snider, Jon (Kaye) Bloch; grandchildren: Meggie (Dan) Graham, Katie (Vince) Kalt, Amanda (Mike) Schaal, Andrew Bloch, Rob (Stephanie) Walton, Jack (Gretchen) Walton, Danny Wendler, David (Cassie) Wendler, Sarah Wendler, Erin Chmelik, Peter Chmelik, John Kinas, Claire Kinas, Jacob Johnson, Sam Johnson, Chip Bloch, and Becky Bloch; great-grandchildren: Penelope Graham, Blake, Reed, and Nadine Kalt, Maliah and Colton Schaal, Alice Walton, Audrey Wendler, Payton and Hazel Wendler, and Hollin Sias; brother-in-law, Richard Sell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Ann; his parents William and Lydia Bloch; brothers, Bill, Bob, and Norman Bloch; and sister, Bonnie Sell.

A visitation for Burt will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 530 Ruth St, Green Lake, WI, 54941.

A Memorial Mass for Burt will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, with Father Philip Krogman officiating. Full military honors will follow, and a private family inurnment will take place at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake. Memorials in Burt's name may be directed to Generations Home Care and Hospice, 1028 S. Main St. C, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935.
