Dr. John Martin Johnson, 97, of Ripon, died May 8, 1994, in Oconomowoc.
He was born August 8, 1896, in Wheaton, MN, one of nine children born to Gilbert and Alida (Jackson) Johnson. He graduated from Mohol, North Dakota High School in 1915, he attened the University of North Dakota from 1915 to 1919, and attended the University Medical School of Illinois from 1919 to 1924. On August 24, 1920, he married Muriel Irene Nelson, and they moved to Ripon in 1923. Dr. Johnson practiced medicine in Ripon until his retirement in 1985.
He is survived by one daughter, Joyce (William) Chapman of Oconomowoc; four grandchildren, James M. Chapman and John W. Chapman, both of Oconomowoc, Michelle Burris of Brainerd, MN, and Ray (Paula) Mair Jr. of Cottage Grove, MN; five great-grandchildren, Mathew and Melissa Burris, and Heather, Benjamin and Jennifer Mair; and one son-in-law, Ray Mair Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel; one daughter, Juniet Mair; and a grandson, Stanley W. Chapman.
Visitation for Dr. J. Martin Johnson will be held on Thursday from 5 until 8:00 pm at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.
A private family service will follow with the Reverend Arthur Volkmann officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Ripon. A memorial has been established in his name.
