Dr. Leonard Karel

Dr. Leonard Karel, 89, of Ripon, WI, died Monday, December 19, 1994, at Parkview Care Center in Ripon.

He was born December 22, 1904, in Nijmegen, Holland, the son of the late Henry and Gertrude Johnson Karel. He graduated from Waupun High School and Marquette University School of Dentistry. “Doc” Karel opened his dental practice in Brandon in 1929, and then had his practice in Ripon from 1940 until his retirement in 1981. On September 5, 1929, he was united in marriage with Alta Bruins. Dr. Karel was a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon, Ripon Kiwanis, Shriners and Masons.

In addition to his wife, Alta, he is survived by one daughter, Patsy (Warren) Lamm of Madison; one son, Larry Karel of Brandon; two grandchildren, Daniel (Ruth) Lamm and Lynne Lamm, all of Madison; one great-grandson, Joshua; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters, and one grandson, Peter Lamm.

Funeral Service for Dr. Karel will be held Thursday at 1 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Reverend Eric Burnard will officiate. Interment will follow in Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 until 6 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home and again on Thursday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his name for Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, 343 Scott St. Ripon.
