Dr. Robert E. Meyer, 82, of Ripon, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon, with his family at his side.
Robert was born in Milwaukee, WI, on March 7, 1928, the son of John and Mathilda (Thiel) Meyer. After graduating from high school, Robert graduated from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and Southern College of Optometry, and was an Optometrist in Ripon, WI for 33 years. On July 4, 1953, he married Carol M. Flugum in Milwaukee, WI. Robert was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon and enjoyed being in the choir for many years. He was a director and member of the Ripon Harmony Kings Barbershop Chorus, and a 56 year member of the Ripon Noon Kiwanis Club having served as President. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Japan from 1946-1947. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, square dancing, downhill skiing, traveling on Mission trips and to Louisville, KY, to the National Quartet Convention, going to Branson, MO, and spending time at the cottage in northern Wisconsin.
Survivors include his wife Carol Meyer of Ripon, six children, Karen Schoenebeck of New Jersey, her sons, Casey (Robyn) and Grant; Nancy Hitz of Milwaukee, WI, and her children, Alex, Kristin and Jason; Robert (Sue) Meyer of Ripon and their son, Adam; Steven Meyer of Green Lake; Laurie (Al) Dummer of Green Bay and their children, Ben, Kayla and Ryan; Timothy Meyer of Thailand, and one great-granddaughter, Kaylie; two sisters-in-law, Irene Meyer and Florence Meyer; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Daniel Meyer, and one sister, Marion Meyer.
Visitation for Dr. Robert E. Meyer will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011, from 4-7:00 p.m. at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Drive, Ripon, WI 54971, and again on Saturday, March 5, 2011, from 10-11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 401 E. Fond du Lac Street, Ripon, WI 54971.
Funeral Services for Dr. Robert E. Meyer will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon, with the Reverend Paul Nulton officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of the Cross Cemetery with full Military Honors. Memorials may be given to the Immanuel United Methodist Church in his name.
