Dr. Russell Pelton

Dr. Russell Stewart Pelton, II, MD, died October 6th 1999, at Vallhaven Care Center in Neenah, WI. Dr. Pelton was born August 14, 1917, in Waupaca, WI, the son of Marjorie Catherine Stewart Pelton and Dr. John Gordiner Pelton. He graduated from Waupaca High School in 1934 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, finishing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1938. He received a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Louisville in 1942. He was board certified Family Practitioner.

He married Dorothy Casey of Simpsonville in Louisville on December 20th 1941. Dr. Pelton served his country during WWII as a physician and Lieutenant Commander in the Navy/Marines. A tireless, unselfish person, Dr. Pelton gave generously of his time and talent to the fine people of Fond du Lac County and the State of Wisconsin. After the war he practiced medicine with Dr. Dow Cupery in Markesan from 1946 to 1954. In 1954, he moved his family to Ripon where he took over the practice of Dr. Kohl. In 1965, he built a medical clinic in Ripon. He was Chief on Staff at Ripon Memorial Hospital. He served as President of the Fond du Lac Medical Society. He retired from the practice of Medicine in 1988.

Dr. Pelton loved to take photographs and to paint. He was active in the Oshkosh Art Club. He was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where he served as a chalice, lector and vestry member. He was a life member of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament. He was a Mason and member of Kiwanis in Ripon. He and Dorothy traveled to Europe, Hawaii and Alaska over the years plus many cross-country trips. He loved to go for a drive.

Dr. Pelton was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marjorie Brossmann Reichl. Dorothy, his devoted wife of 57 years, survives him. Other survivors include his sisters, Juliet Doerfler McCoog of Ocala, FL, Josephine Langhoff of Reedsburg, and Harriet Main of Weyauwega and a cousin, Robert Stewart of NH.

Dr. Pelton is survived by five children including Marjorie Lewis of Highland Maryland, Ellen Louise Roemer and her husband, Mark of Menasha, WI, John Casey Pelton and his wife, Janet of Danville, CA, Russell Stewart Pelton III of Baltimore, MD, Jonathan Lewis of San Diego CA, Amy Muth of Greenfield, WI, Jeremy Beining of Oshkosh, WI, Paul Beining of Madison, WI, Zachary Rukstella of San Francisco, CA, Julie Brown of Montello, WI and Elise Albrecht of Columbia, MO. Great-grandchildren include Jamie and Casey Derr of Sykesville, MD and Justin Muth of Greenfield, WI.

A Holy Eucharist and Service of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ripon on Monday, October 11, 1999, at 10 am with Father John Paul Westin officiating. Interment will take place later in Waupaca. The family requests that memorials in Dr. Pelton’s memory rather than flowers be sent in to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Ripon Memorial Hospital or The Alzheimer’s Association of America.
