Duwayne Bloch

DuWayne J. Bloch, age 79, of 471 Lake St., Green Lake, died Tuesday morning, October 29, 2002, at Ripon Medical Center.

He was born January 29, 1923, in Fairwater, the son of Gustav and Elsa (Briese) Bloch. He was a 1940 graduate of Ripon High School and graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1947. DuWayne joined the Army Air Corp in 1943, and was a B-24 armorer gunner, and served on appointed body guard detail for General Wainright. On June 20, 1948, he married Phyllis Krueger in Green Lake. He worked at the First National Bank in Ripon from 1947-1954. Mr. Bloch was then appointed Postmaster of Green Lake in 1954, and held that position until his retirement in 1981. DuWayne joined the Green Lake Fire Department in 1954, and served as Fire Chief from 1956-1975. He was a member of Willis-Chapel Legion Post #306 and the Federated Church of Green Lake, and served on the Green Lake City Council for 20 years and the Green Lake School Board for 5 years. DuWayne was an avid deer and pheasant hunter, a lifetime Cubs fan, and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Green Lake; 2 daughters, D’Etta McMillan (Guy) of Arlington Heights, IL and Elizabeth Pettack of Green Lake; 2 granddaughters, Virginia Cerdan (Jose Luis) of Cape Coral, FL and Deanna Pettack of Green Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service for DuWayne J. Bloch will be Friday, November 1, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Federated Church of Green Lake with Rev. Karen Gygax Rodriguez officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be in Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake. A memorial has been established.
