Earl Berndt

September 15, 1919 — March 21, 2001

Earl Herman Berndt, age 81, of Ripon, WI, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah.

He was born September 15, 1919, in Ripon, a son to Herman and Florence (Gatzke) Berndt. He attended Ripon school and served our country during WWII for the U.S. Army. Earl married Ellen Lucille Zeckser on December 25, 1945, and they have lived in this area all of their life. He was a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon, Local 1327 Union and Veterans of Foreign Wars Schultz-Klemp-Wentland Post 5278 in Ripon where he was also a past Commander. Earl farmed on his own farm while working at Speed Queen as a fork life operator.

Survivors include his children, Nancy Williams of VA, Wendy (Tom) Resop of Ripon, Benita (Ronald) Keplin of Ripon, Randy (Kari) Berndt of Ripon; grandchildren, Lori Beth (Chris) Sudberry of VA, Troy (Theresa) Resop, Amanda (Nathan) Disterhaft, Laura and Danielle Keplin, Christy and Jeremy Berndt, great-grandchildren, Timothy, Ricky, Jakob Sudberry, Tyler and Taylor Resop and Alexus Berndt. Three brothers, Lawrence (Katy) Berndt of Waupun, Melvin Berndt of Ripon, Gilbert (Marion) Berndt of Green Lake and one sister, June (Leslie) Brown of Ripon. Two sisters-in-law, Peggy Zeckser of Maustin, Helen Rosenau of Waupaca and Ted (Ellie) Zeckser of Oconowoc. Earl will be sadly missed by all his children and grand-children. Preceding Earl in death was his wife, one son, Gerald and one daughter, LuAnn and his parents.

Funeral service for Earl will be held on Friday, March 23, 2001, at 11:00 am at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon with Reverend Rebecca A. Johnston officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, March 22, 2001, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home with a V.F.W. Service to be held at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Friends may also call on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the church. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Dartford Cemetery Green Lake. A memorial has been established in his name.
