Earl Buchholz

Earl A. Buchholz, age 79, 425 Pacific St., Ripon, died Sunday evening, July 28, 2002, at Parkview Care Center in Ripon.

He was born August 3, 1922, in Ripon, the son of August Robert and Anna Elsie (Prellwitz) Buchholz. He graduated from Ripon High School in 1941. He later served in the US Army from January 1943 to February 1946, and received the Bronze Star. Just days before entering the war, he married Rose Marie Wilhelms on January 25, 1943. After the war ended, he worked for the City of Ripon for 38 years, and at retirement was Superintendent of Public Works. Mr. Buchholz was a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, and was a 40-year member of Ripon Lions (Past President, District Deputy Governor, Chaplin and Zone Chairman). Earl had been Ripon’s Santa Claus for 31 years and Rose has been Mrs. Santa. He had lived in Ripon all of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie Buchholz of Ripon; 1 son, Earl (Marva) Buchholz, Jr. of El Cajun, CA; 1 daughter, Sharon (Roger) Poblitz of Wausau; 1 grandson, Ampy (Ruth) Buchholz of Portland, OR; 2 granddaughters, Michelle (Jesse) Bornfleth of Wausau and Melanie (Paul) Holtz of Wausau; 1 sister, Mildred Buchholz of Ripon; and 1 brother, Norman (Lorraine) Buchholz of Huntsville, AL; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Carol; and parents.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2002, at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon with Rev. David A. Busker officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon and again on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment with Military Honors will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon. Memorials will be given to the Lions Camp in Plover, WI in his name.
