Edmund Luebke

December 24, 1911 — July 3, 2003

Edmund (Big Ed) H. Luebke, age 91, Ripon, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2003 at Parkview Care Center.

Ed was born December 24, 1911, on the family farm near Juneau, as an only child to Herman and Bertha Luebke. Ed attended school in Juneau. As a boy growing up on the farm, Ed learned to fly his father’s Curtis Jenny. By the time Ed was 16, he was working for the Ford dealer in Juneau, WI. When WWII started, he was employed by the Dodge County Highway Dept. He was conscripted and sent to the Manitowoc Shipyards where he used his considerable welding and mechanical skills to help build submarines. Ed was awarded the Navy E for his service during the war. On August 31, 1942, he married Roberta Hubbard. At the conclusion of the war, Ed had a job waiting for him as a mechanic at Lemmenes Ford, in Ripon, where he eventually became known as “Big Ed”. He was a mechanic for 56 years. If it didn’t work, Big Ed could fix it; if you needed something that didn’t exist, Big Ed could build it.

Survivors include; a daughter, Nancy (Michael) Mateyka, of Chico, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Roberta in 1965 and daughter, Susan O’Connell in 1988.

Friends may call on Tuesday, July 8, 2003, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 7:00, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. Interment will be at Garden of the Cross Cemetery, City of Ripon. A memorial has been established.
