After blessing his family and community for many years, Edmund J. Winterbottom, Jr. of Ripon, Wisconsin and Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts passed away suddenly in Ripon on Thursday night, January 22, 1998. Mr. Winterbottom was active in church and community affairs both in Ripon and in Vineyard Haven, the small Massachusetts community to which he and his wife relocated after his retirement from Speed Queen in Ripon.
A graduate of Brown University, Mr. Winterbottom combined a love of children with a lifelong commitment to education, teaching and tutoring in the public schools and teaching Sunday school in the Church of Christ, Scientist.
Mr. Winterbottom took great pleasure in participating in the Ripon College Choral Union and he was also an enthusiastic member of the Ripon Kiwanis Club and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Sarah Tilton Winterbottom, their daughters Bethany Mossbart and Phoebe Crandall of Troy, Michigan, Polly Cheney of Petoskey, Michigan and Amy Gates of Winchester, Massachusetts, their son Peter Winterbottom of Chatham, Illinois and by Mr. Winterbottoms sister Martha Grundy of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania. He was also blessed with nine grandchildren.
Friends and associates are warmly invited to join the family in a celebration of Mr. Winterbottoms life on Monday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the lounge of the First Congregational Church, 220 Ransom Street in Ripon.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Mr. Winterbottoms name to a charity of your choice.
