Edna Mary Jennings, age 102, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Wolverton Glen in Ripon.

Edna was born in the Township of Dakota in Waushara County, WI on December 7, 1912. She was the daughter of Albert J. and Augusta (nee, Mattice) Blader. She received her early education in that area and in 1935 moved to Ripon with her sister and invalid mother, where the Northwest Telephone Company employed her. On November 10, 1940, she married Dale Jennings. In 1942, he was called into the ministry and they moved to Evanston, IL, where she worked while he attended Garrett Biblical Institute. Upon graduation, they served the Salem and Wilmot parish and through the years they also ministered in Milwaukee, Sun Prairie, Butler, Waupun, Oconto Falls and Elo.

Edna was an active member of the United Nations Association of the United States and the America Peace Movement since 1966. With her husband, she travelled to Eastern Europe (at that time, Communist countries) where they witnessed in churches, testified to government officials and distributed Bibles. In the early 70’s they went on a second mission trip, going to Czechoslovakia, East Germany and Russia. Edna acted as interpreter in discussions of how to live under atheistic government and still keep the faith. In the mid 70’s, they visited the missions of India, observing the accomplishments of the United Nations and Unicef in the leper rehabilitation colonies. In the late 70’s, they attended conferences in England, Scotland, Wales, Germany and Italy, testifying to the people of these countries. Edna and her husband shared their home with students from Indonesia and Venezuela. In the early 80’s, they represented Wisconsin on a peace trip to communist Russia.

Edna taught Bible studies at the Fox Lake Correctional Facility and ceramics at Central State Hospital. She’s been honored for her work with gifted children of the Ripon schools. She was the telephone coordinator for the Ripon food pantry and a charter member of its board. Edna assisted as a volunteer with the Fond du Lac County Nutrition program at Russell Manor. She taught a Bible class there, had a prayer group at the Parkview Nursing Home and held a religious class at Ripon Residential Center for the developmentally disabled. She also led a Bible Study group at Hilltop Manor.

Edna has knitted sweaters for merchant marine sailors, averaging thirty a year. She sewed layettes for Church World Service, to be given to mothers in third World Nations after they completed a course in childcare. Edna knitted over 100 sweaters for children through the Knit for Guidepost program. For relaxation, she enjoyed oil and water paintings, as well as chalk art. Her favorites hung in her room and were enjoyed by all who came to visit. Edna was an avid reader and she was always willing to share her books with others.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Griffin of Tucson, AZ and son, David (Dee) Jennings of Missoula, MT; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Augusta Blader; husband, Reverend Dale Jennings; granddaughter, son-in-law, Roy and sister, Ann Blader.
