Edna Van Metre

Mrs. Edna V. Van Metre, 82, of Lac Verde Circle, Green Lake, died October 18, 1990, at her home.

She was born February 6, 1908, in Fedora, SD, a daughter of Andrew and Bernice Tanzy Williams. On July 4, 1931, she married W.D. Van Metre.

Mrs. Van Metre graduated in 1929, from the University of South Dakota. Prior to her marriage, she was a school teacher. She was an avid environmentalist, a past Cub Scout leader and a mentor to several Ripon Eagle Scouts. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ripon and treasurer of the Womens Fellowship of the church.

Mrs. Van Metre was a charter member of the Ripon Women’s Club, a lifetime member of the South Woods Association, and a member of the Ripon Study Club and the Ripon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She resided in Ripon from 1938 to 1964, when she moved to Green Lake.

Survivors include two sons Jack and his wife Julie of Madison and Robert and his wife Barbara of Wilton, CT; one granddaughter, Valorie Litchy and her husband Dave; three grandsons, Kirk, Evan, and Steven Van Metre; and one great-grandson, Benjamin Litchy; two sisters, Jeanette Williams of Ripon and Beth Aggerbeck of Park Ridge, IL; one brother, James Williams of Sedona, AZ; and two nieces and three nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband.

Funeral services for Mrs. Van Metre will be held Monday at 10 AM at the First Congregational Church of Ripon. The Reverend Catherine Ann Carlson will officiate. Interment will be in Garden of the Cross Cemetery, Ripon.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 PM, Sunday at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.

Memorials may be directed to the Edna and W.D. Van Metre Scholarship at Ripon College or toward the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
