Edward Menke

December 21, 1895 — November 18, 1988

Mr. Edward F. Menke, 92, formerly of Green Lake, WI, died Friday, November 18, 1988, at Riverdale Manor in Markesan.

He was born December 21, 1895, in Green Lake County, to Anton and Mary Abendroth Menke. On September 23, 1920, he married Elva Mae Scheible who preceded him in death in 1960. He then married Lena Andersen-Friend on October 19, 1963.

Mr. Menke was a farmer in the Markesan area until 1944. He then moved to Fond du Lac where he ran a farm feed and eggs produce store. He moved to Florida in 1964 where he lived until moving back to Green Lake in 1983.

He had been in the 344th Infantry in WWI and had fought in Belgium and France. He was a member of The Federated Church of Green Lake and the Green Lake American Legion Post #306.

Survivors include his wife, Lena; three daughters, Maxine (William) Kolkmeyer and Donna (Myron) Gusse both of Lake Worth, Florida and Karel (Dale) Buck of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; one step-son, Kenneth (Barbara) Friend of Green Lake; one step-daughter, Evelyn (Edgar) Weiss of Green Lake; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Vyrelle, one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 21, 1988, at 1:00 pm at The Federated Church of Green Lake. The Reverend Dwight R. Bastian officiated and interment was in the Markesan Memorial Cemetery in Markesan.
