Edwin G.H. Comfort, age 88, Professor of Mathematics at Ripon
College from 19521972, formerly of Ripon, died Sunday, May 26, 1996, at Parkview Care Center in Ripon.
He was born August 12, 1907, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a
son of the late Joseph Castle and Augusta Caroline (Hunter)
Comfort. He received his Bachelor and Masters Degrees from
Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, and his Phd from
Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. On June 28,
1938, he was united in marriage with the former Roberta
Madeline Robinson in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Edwin was a Reserve Officer of the U.S. Army, LTC retired, having served in the Air Force during WWII from 19411945, and in the Ordinance Corps after the war. Dr. Comfort was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of other profesional societies (AAASLife Member), Ripon Philatelic Society, and former member of Amvets. Dr. Comfort was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in
Ripon.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta Comfort; 2 sons, Joseph Comfort and his wife, Patricia of Tempe, Arizona and Richard Comfort of Ripon, WI; 3 grandchildren, Neal, Ryan and Alison Comfort; and 2 nephews, George Slanger of Minot, North Dakota and William Slanger of Fargo, North Dakota. He was preceded in death by a daughter, 2 sisters, a brother, and his parents.
A Memorial Service for the late Edwin H. Comfort will be
Thursday, May 30, 1996, at 10 A.M. at St. Peters Episcopal
Church, Ripon with Father Robert J.C. Brown officiating. The
family will receive friends after the service at the church.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at Memorial Park
Cemetery in Skokie, Illinois.
Memorials may be given in his name to St. Peters Episcopal Church or to the ComfortLarson Fund at Ripon College.
